AFAIK, 4074 is always professional.

Betas of longhorn before beta 1 were or server or professional.

I can be converted just like a windows xp.
But the question was, what was the difference between 4074 and 4074 professional.

I think that your ~300MB iso is not complete or its corrupt.

The install.wim of 4074 (from the ftp) is about 725MB.

actually
longhorn professional build 4074 is the 32bit build
longhorn professional for extended 64bit system build 4074 is the 64bit build

it isn't really labeled wrong, but not label fully

4074 x86 is 733 MB while x64 is 694 MB
but x86 is an imaged build while x64 is a traditional extract and copy installation
4083 is an imaged build reducing the build by ~60 MB

Builds 3718 to 4047 (tested but lost the iso's ) can be converted to Home Edition or to [Web, Enterprise, Standard] Server with TweakNT, BUT it will say you have a bad product key for some editions.
Here is an example running on XP SP2 (2600, final):

I don't know if it is legal to upload - could a moderator help with this?

but you can also use pidgen.dll in early versions and install it with for example xp mce 05 key, this also works with vista final, use pidgenx.dll from 5744 or later betas and replace it with finals one so you can use beta serials

Can you activate Vista if it's been installed using this method?

Timebomb can't be removed from Windows Server 2008 RC1 - I think the same will happen in Vista Betas and RCs:

P.S.: TweakNT has nothing to do with activation. Longhorn can be activated using one more file - not only with TweakNT. As someone said above it needs also some .dll files to activate Vista.

Wrong, it's not pidgen(x).dll, that never determined keys in the first place. You have to replace pkeyconfig.xrm-ms from a beta disc (MS disabled this through a hotfix anyway)

Also that file is kind of similar to XP's setupp.ini

Tweak NT and the systems

Post by WZR_Fuhrer-Adolf »

Actually, almost all the Windows NT can be converted to the other editions with the help of Tweak NT correctly, but it's only on you personal to test all the issues
